Modeling and Design Optimization of an Electric Environmental Control System for Commercial Passenger Aircraft

The aircraft environmental control system (ECS) is the second-highest fuel consumer system, behind propulsion system. To reduce consumption, one research direction intends to replace conventional with more electric aircraft. Thus, new architectures have be designed for each such as ECS. In this paper, an ECS modeled and then sized optimized different sizing scenarios aim of minimizing consumption at level. For component, air inlets heat exchangers, parametric models are developed allow prediction relevant characteristics. These models, in order adapted design issues, types, scaling laws surrogate models. They assembled build a preliminary procedure by using multidisciplinary analysis optimization (MDAO) formulation. Results show that highly dependent on scenario considered. An approach size globally respect all leads accounts around 200 N drag, 190 kW power, 1500 kg mass CeRAS
